Released on 06.21.2019
Cellar Live

Pureum Jin | Jeremy Manasia | Willie Jones III | Luke Sellick | Sabeth Perez

“The Real Blue” is New York based jazz saxophonist Pureum Jin’s first studio recording. The album is entitled based on a direct translation of her name in English - as the tunes reflect the journey of her life and career after coming to the US. Pianist and executive producer Jeremy Manasia assembled an all-star lineup, including the great Willie Jones III on drums, and rising stars Luke Sellick on bass, and Sabeth Pérez on vocals. The album exhibits the fierce, impassioned force that Pureum Jin’s saxophone displays as a new voice in New York jazz scene, showing her talents as a soloist, composer and bandleader to be reckoned with.

I relocated to New York in summer 2018 after spending a year in Charlottesville, Virginia soon after my graduation from MSM in 2017. I constantly visit C’ville area for performances. While in C’ville, I played actively on weekly performances at Miller’s at Downtown Mall as a member of John D’earth’s sextet. I performed with UVa Jazz Ensemble as a guest performer, and participated on events such as Jazz in the Park in Staunton, VA and The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU hosted events including Miho Hazama’s Big Band, playing the music of Thelonious Monk. I also performed in DC Jazz Fest, as a member of Jihye Lee Jazz Orchestra featuring Ted Nash and Sean Jones. I recently visited UVa again April to play as a guest performer of UVa jazz ensemble for ‘Jazz 4 Justice’ concert along with Grammy winning baritone saxophonist and a great friend Lauren Sevian.

Prior to obtaining my Master’s at MSM, I've been active in both Korea and international jazz scenes, playing in international jazz festivals including Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival (Scotland, 2012), Takatsuki Jazz Festival (Japan, 2010), Seoul Jazz Festival (Korea, 2013), Jarasum International Jazz Festival (Korea, 2009-2014), and Jazz Korea (Germany 2012, 2013), and other jazz venues in the region. I recorded a live album while I was on Europe tour in 2012, which was released through Nagel-Heyer rcords in 2013. I was also selected as a rising star by Korean jazz magazine ‘Jazz People’ in year 2012.
